ASTM F835 is a Standard Specification for Alloy Steel Socket Button and Flat Countersunk Head Cap Screws

Alloy steel grade type of fasteners, namely hexagon socket button head cap screws or as referred to as SBHCS as well as flat countersunk head cap screws or shortened to SFHCS are covered by the American Society for Testing and Materials F835 specification. This grade of F835 Socket Button Head Cap Screw is to be fabricated from alloy steel that usually is involved by using a fine grain practice. This Fine Grain Practice is a technique used in steelmaking practice, that is designed to be used for any other steel grades for e.g. F835 Flange Bolt that is not stainless steel. The intension of fine grain practise is to produce killed steel.

This killed steel, in turn, is capable of meeting the requirements that have been set by the specification for the grain size of the F835 Bolts. Usually, the addition of an element in the alloy of F835 Studs in order to produce a finer grain size could include elements such as aluminium, niobium, titanium, or even vanadium. However, the addition of these elements is at the discretion of the F835m Hex Bolts suppliers. Moreover, the quenched and tempered F835 Screw has a heat analysis to conform its chemical composition as well as other tests to check its mechanical properties i.e tensile strength, hardness, elongation etc.

1. Scope

1.1 ASTM F835 specification covers the requirements for quenched and tempered alloy steel hexagon socket button (SBHCS) 0.060 through 0.625 thread sizes and flat countersunk (SFHCS) 0.060 through 1.5 thread sizes head cap screws having material properties for high-strength requirements.

1.2 ASTM F835 Fasteners meeting this specification are intended for shear-type applications and have tensile requirements ranging from 122 to 150 ksi.
